Tairawhiti off to a flying start in U15 Softball North Island Champs

The U15 Softball North Island Champs kicked off today, with teams from all corners of the North Island descending on Waikirikiri Park for four days of grueling competition. The opening match saw Tairawhiti square off against Manawatu, and after an impressive haka the Tairawhiti side loked polished and calculated. The final score of the match was 11-2, and puts Tairawhiti in a good position going into their remaining round-robin matches.

There will be games played all day for four days at the domain, and the spectating will be exciting.

The Tairawhiti Softball Boys Under 15 team traveled to Hawkes Bay on Saturday to play 3 games to begin preparations for the under 15 nationals to be held in Gisborne January 12-15.

First up was Napier Boys High School who struggled with the accuracy and power of Tairawhiti pitcher Treyson Hikitapu-Wilson. Crank It Up Cycle Challenge

The inaugural “Crank it UP” overnight Cycle Challenge is set to take place on the beautiful Gisborne beachfront on January 21,22, 2017. The event has been set up to support victims of family violence with all proceeds going to support agencies such as Tauawhi Men against violence and Women’s refuge. Tuta Ngarimu, said when Cycle Gisborne approached them with the idea of making the night a safe place to be for friends and whanau he jumped at the chance of getting in behind the event. The name and event is all about Cranking it Up in a positive environment which will be drug, alcohol, smoke and fizzy free.
The course is a simple rolling hill course with a couple of technical components over a 2-3 kilometre course. The course will wind through Watson Park, Awapuni Stadium and the Adventure Playground. It will be challenging enough for most riders. Overnight base camp for the ride will be in Watson Park.
The 12 hour event starts at 7pm Saturday night and goes through until 7am Sunday morning. The event is for teams between 2 and 10 riders, grunty solo riders can also take on the challenge.
Teams ride the 3km circuit and complete as many laps as they can within the timeframe of their event. Cycle technology records each lap. Tents, campervans and caravans pop up in the campsites which riders wind their way through each lap creating an electric atmosphere and family fun experience.
Lap changes occur at your site, and completed laps will be recorded each time you cross the timing mats under the finish gantry.

Big weekend ahead for Gisborne BMX

Gisborne BMXOn the 10th & 11th of December, Gisborne BMX club will host an action-packed weekend of racing. Saturday will be an annual race meet hosted by the club, while Sunday will be the Central Region Champs (Hawkes Bay, Taupo, Rotorua, Tauranga & Gisborne). This will also be the last of 10 Rounds towards the National Points Championship which are held at each Regional Champs around the country. Sunday will be the first time Gisborne has hosted the Central Region Champs since 2011.

The club are expecting 150-200 riders each day, including some top racers from all around the country here to try to clinch the National Points Series. Local Elite Rider Nick Fox will also be home for the event, after two months of competing in China & the USA.

 

Both days will make for exciting spectating, with food options and a great family atmosphere.
