Rotary’s New “Future Leader Scholarship”
The Rotary Club of Gisborne West has created a $2000 scholarship to reward and recognise a young person in Tairawhiti who is achieving within his/her sport through national, regional or international representation. Applications close 30th of September annually and the successful applicant will be recognised at the Logans Sporting Excellence Awards. Download the application form.
Sport on the Move Fund
An annually distributed Eastern and Central Community Trust (ECCT) fund that assists intermediate and secondary school sports teams from the East Coast region travel to Gisborne to play in our local competitions. In 2011 the Sport on the Move fund helped over 200 students from as far north as Hicks Bay to attend rugby, netball and basketball winter competitions.
Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund
Getting involved in regular sport competitions is always a challenge for people living in rural communities. The ‘Sport NZ rural travel fund’ is designed to help subsidise rural travel for junior teams, and is targeted at young people aged between 5-19 years to assist school and club sports teams to participate in local sporting competitions. The grant provides assistance for travel costs related to local regular sports competition for junior teams (the fund is not available for travelling to regional or national events). There are 2 funding rounds each year for winter and summer sports codes. This fund is administered by the Gisborne District Council and there is a Whiti Ora representative is on the panel.
Halberg Trust Activity Fund
The Halberg Trust Activity Fund provides grants to enable young disabled people to participate in sport and recreation within their community. The main goal is to support activities that are regular, ongoing, build skills and confidence, remove barriers and are fun! Applicants must be aged between eight and 18 years, although the minimum age for swimming lessons is five. The Trust funds equipment, lessons and school camps.
The Lion Foundation
The Lion Foundation follows a very clear funding strategy that has been in place for many years and is designed to ensure as many New Zealand communities as possible are supported and 40% of the Lion Foundation’s funding distribution goes to sport.
NZ Community Trust
Every year, NZCT give millions of dollars in grants to thousands of applicants from a huge range of sporting groups – funds come from NZCT operators up and down the country who run NZCT’s gaming machines in their hotels, bars and clubs.
First Sovereign
The money raised from the operation of gaming machines is distributed by way of grants. First Sovereign grants can be applied for, to support a sport’s teams ground hirage, procurement of sports equipment and/or uniforms, and travel expenses.
